Bissell Helps Keep Ronald McDonald
House
of West Michigan a Healthy House

Once a year they come armed with love, vacuums, mops and cleaning supplies to
give the Ronald McDonald House of West Michigan (RMHWM) a healthy dose of spring
cleaning.
Healthy House Clean Up Day, (formerly known as Spring Clean Up Day), is a project
for which Ronald McDonald Houses around the world, including the West Michigan
House, gather community volunteers, roll up sleeves and give the “Houses that
Love Built” a thorough cleaning with products donated by project sponsor BISSELL.
This year’s local event was held Saturday, May 19 at the West Michigan Ronald McDonald House, 1323 Cedar NE.
“We changed the title of our annual program to Healthy House Clean Up, which
better reflects BISSELL’s commitment to providing consumers with home and floor
care products that create healthy home environments at all times of the year
– not just in the spring,” said Jim Krzeminski,, BISSELL’s executive vice president
of sales and marketing. “And what better partner to share our commitment with
than Ronald McDonald Houses around the world -- including our very own West
Michigan Ronald McDonald House, which is a temporary home for more than 800
families each year.”
Along with carpet deep cleaners, vacuum cleaners, carpet sweepers, furniture
polish and disinfectant cleaners, BISSELL has provided each Ronald McDonald
House with its new Multi-Allergen Removal™ Fiber Cleansing formula for use in
deep cleaning machines. This product is specifically designed to fight dust
mite waste, pet and pollen allergens in the home.
Volunteers at the Ronald McDonald House of West Michigan were not alone in
efforts to battle allergens on Healthy House Clean Up day. The Ronald McDonald House in Dayton,
OH was the official kick-off site for the Healthy House Clean Up project
on May 19. Local Dayton volunteers were joined by the event’s Honorary Chairperson,
11-year-old Morgan Wilburn (a.k.a. the BISSELL Boy).
Wilburn is credited for sparking the BISSELL/RMHC relationship five years ago
when he donated a vacuum to his favorite charity, the Ronald McDonald House
in his hometown of Roanoke, Va.
Taking the youngster’s cue, BISSELL began annually donating cleaning products
to 157 Houses worldwide. To date, BISSELL’s donation in product and in-kind
services is nearly $200,000.
Founded in 1974, Ronald McDonald House Charities provides a “home-away-from
home” for the families of seriously ill children receiving treatment at nearby
hospitals. There are 207 Ronald McDonald Houses in 18 countries. The Ronald
McDonald House is the cornerstone program of Ronald McDonald House Charities.
The West Michigan House is a 19,000-square-foot home with 17 bedrooms that provides
lodging for more than 800 families each year.
Headquartered in Grand Rapids, Mich., BISSELL Inc. is a 135-year-old privately
held international manufacturer of home cleaning products including sweepers,
